Cortex
Ask Cortex how to use any feature. It answers from these docs, links to the pages it used, and can pass a question on to support.
Cortex answers questions about using Neuron. Ask it how to do something, or why something isn't working, and it answers from these docs, with links to the pages it used. Use Cortex when you'd rather ask than search the docs yourself.
Open Cortex
- On the canvas with a left rail of sections: click Cortex in the left rail. It is the second section, after Neurons.
- About one neuron: in the Neurons section, open a neuron's menu (Run and options) and choose Ask Cortex about this. Cortex opens with that neuron as the topic.
- On other pages: click the round Cortex button in the bottom right corner (Open Cortex). Cortex opens on the right side of the screen, or full screen on a phone. Click Close Cortex or press Escape to close it.
- On a docs page: the same round button is in the bottom right corner of every page of these docs. Cortex answers from these docs and knows which page you are reading, so you can ask about it ("What are the limits here?"). If you are not signed in, the button opens Sign in to ask Cortex with a Sign in button. After you sign in you come back to the same docs page, and then you can ask.
The Cortex button shows on the pages you see when signed in, such as the dashboard, My Agents, Credits and a workflow canvas without the left rail, and on every docs page, even when you are signed out. On the workflow canvas without the left rail it sits just above the zoom controls. It doesn't show on the canvas with the left rail, which has the Cortex section instead.
Ask a question
- Type your question in the message box, or click one of the suggested questions in an empty chat.
- Press Enter to send. Press Shift+Enter for a new line.
- While Cortex is Thinking…, the message box waits. The answer appears with links to the docs it came from; each link opens the page in a new tab.
Cortex answers in the language you write in.
On the canvas, when you select a neuron or choose Ask Cortex about this, the chat shows About: and the neuron's name. Cortex then also looks at that neuron's settings and the issues it shows (such as "1 to fix"), so you can ask "Why won't this neuron run?". Click Remove context to ask about the workflow in general.

What Cortex can and can't answer
Cortex can:
- explain how to use any feature, step by step, from these docs;
- look at the workflow you have open (its neurons, settings and issues) to say what's wrong and how to fix it;
- help write the code for a Code neuron, from the examples on the Code page;
- inside an agent from the Store, look at what you can see on the agent page, never the agent's hidden setup.
Cortex can't:
- change your workflow, run it or build it for you. It tells you what to do, and you do it;
- answer questions that aren't about Neuron;
- answer what the docs don't cover. Then it says so and offers Send to support.
Send a question to support
When Cortex can't answer from the docs, the answer offers Send to support. Click it to send your question to the support team. The button then says who support will reply to: the email address on your account. Each question can be sent once.
Questions Cortex couldn't answer are also collected, without your name or email, so the team can add what's missing to the docs.
What Cortex costs
Each question uses credits, like a run does. The line under the message box shows the usual cost of a question, and each answer shows what it cost. If Cortex says Something went wrong. Please try again., you may still have been charged for that question; your balance on the Credits & usage page shows what was charged. If an answer takes too long, Cortex checks the chat: if you were charged, the answer is there. If your balance is too low, Cortex says Add credits to keep asking, with a link to add credits. See Credits & usage.
Your chats
Your chats with Cortex are private: only you see them.
- Each workflow, each agent conversation in My Agents, and everything else (general questions) has its own list of chats. Open the list at the top of Cortex to switch chats.
- Click New chat to start over. Delete a chat from the list with Delete chat.
- A chat is deleted 90 days after its last message. Deleting a workflow or an agent conversation also deletes its chats.
- A chat holds a set number of messages. When it is full, Cortex says This chat is full. Start a new chat.
Limits
- One question: up to 2,000 characters.
