Using an agent
Keep separate conversations with an agent, see which version each one runs, and manage what the agent remembers for you.
Each agent in My Agents can have several conversations (chats). A conversation keeps its own results and, when the agent learns, its own memory. Use separate conversations for separate jobs, for example one per client.
Conversations
Open an agent in My Agents. Its conversations are listed across the top as Chat 1, Chat 2 and so on, newest first, each with a line about its last result. Click one to switch to it.
- A version label on a conversation, such as "v1.2.0", is the version that conversation runs.
- Linked marks a conversation linked to the original agent.
Start a new conversation
- Click New chat. The new conversation is added at the front as Chat 1.
- For an agent you installed from the store, the new conversation starts right away as a separate copy.
- For an agent you published yourself, choose how the conversation behaves under How should this chat behave?:
- Separate copy: its own history; best for everyday use. It runs the version that was current when you started it.
- Linked to original: shares data with your original agent and always runs it as it is now.
Remove a conversation
Hover over a conversation and click the bin button (Remove this chat). Removing a conversation also deletes its dashboards; their shared links stop working.
When the Builder publishes a new version
A separate-copy conversation stays on the version it started with, so its results don't change under you. When the Builder publishes a newer version, the conversation says "This conversation runs v… — the builder published v…. Start a new conversation to use it." Click Start new conversation to get the new version. Your other conversations keep working as they are.
If the Builder also raised the price, you are asked to pay the difference first. See Agent Store.
Your memory in an agent
When an agent learns from your runs, each separate-copy conversation has its own memory, private to you. Linked conversations have no memory of their own.
- Open the conversation and click the brain button (Agent memory). A number on the button means items are waiting for you in Review.
- The Memory drawer opens, named after the conversation and marked "private to you". It has four tabs: Memory, Review, Timeline and Settings.
The Memory tab
- LEARNED BY THIS SETUP: what this conversation has remembered from its runs. Open an item to read, edit or delete it.
- DOCUMENTS: reference files you upload, such as a price list. Runs read them but never change them.
- FROM plus the Builder's name: what ships with the agent. You can read these items, but not change them.
- Memory used shows how much of this conversation's memory space is in use.
You can add your own memories and documents with Add memory and Add document, as a Builder does in a workflow; see Memory.
Review and Timeline
- Review lists what runs want to remember when this conversation asks you first. Save, Edit or Discard each one.
- Timeline lists every change to this conversation's memory. Click Undo to reverse a change.
Settings
- When this setup remembers something: Ask me first (waits in Review for you; runs don't pause) or Save automatically (saved right away; undo from Timeline).
- What it remembers: the inputs and results the Builder set the agent to remember. Only new details are saved.
- Space: how much memory this conversation uses. When it is full, new things aren't saved and you get a notice; runs keep working.
If the Settings tab says This agent doesn't learn, the Builder set the agent to use only what ships with it. Your runs aren't remembered, but you can still add your own items in Memory.
Inputs the agent remembers are marked "Remembered for this setup" on the run form.
What an agent can change or delete
Before you install an agent, and in its run panel, you see the apps to connect and This Agent can: what it can do in your accounts, app by app. Actions that delete data are marked Deletes data. The agent acts only with your own accounts, and only in those ways.
If an agent stops working because an administrator turned one of its app actions off, its Builder is told. An app event that starts the agent shows Paused: turned off by an administrator; you can't switch it back on, and the Builder needs to replace it in a new version.
Limits
- Conversations per agent: up to 10 conversations.
- Memory per conversation: up to 50 MB.
- Memory across all your workflows and agents: up to 200 MB.
- Undoable memory changes: the last 150 changes.
Common problems
New chat is greyed out
The agent already has the most conversations allowed. Remove one you no longer need with Remove this chat, then click New chat.
There's no Agent memory button
The conversation is linked to the original agent, and linked conversations have no memory of their own. Start a Separate copy conversation to get one.
My runs aren't remembered
The Settings tab says This agent doesn't learn, or the memory is full. Free up space in the Memory tab, or delete items you no longer need.
Results changed after an update
A Linked to original conversation with your own agent always runs the agent as it is now, so each change you publish shows up right away. Use a Separate copy conversation to stay on one version.
