Rooms

Put several of your agents in one room and let them take turns, round by round, with you between rounds.

A room puts several of your agents to work together. Each seat in a room is a setup of one of your agents, and the seats take their turns in order. One round is every seat taking one turn. A seat whose action gives a Decision can decide when the room ends.

You train each agent on its own page. The room only decides what each seat gets and when it speaks.

Make a room

There are three ways to start one:

  • New room in the title row of My agents, or Create › New room in the top bar. It opens an empty room on Seats and rules, ready for seats.
  • + New room at the top of any room page.
  • From the Store: Builders suggest rooms for their agents. They show on the Store's home page and on an agent's listing, under Works well in a room with. Click Get this room (see below).

A room has a name and a one-line description at the top. Click them to edit. Changes to the room stay a draft until you click Save room (or Save changes once it has been saved). Start on the Run tab saves your changes first, so the room runs as you see it.

Your rooms are listed under Rooms on My agents. Click My Agents at the top of a room to go back.

Get a room from the Store

Get this room opens the room's agents in turn order, one per seat (Seat 1, Seat 2, …). Each agent shows what it needs before the room can start:

  • You have it: you already have this agent; it names the setup the room's seat will use.
  • Add: a free agent. Click it to add the agent.
  • Buy: a paid agent. Click it, then pay the price shown.
  • Request access: an agent only some people can use. The request waits for its Builder (Asked · waiting), who may say yes or Declined.
  • Connect plus an app's name: the agent needs an app you haven't connected yet.

When every agent is ready, click Start room. The room uses one of your setups of each agent, in the Builder's order. When you have no free setup of an agent, a new setup is made for the room. If a paid agent's terms changed since you bought it, you're asked to accept the new terms first.

A room made this way starts with links already set for each seat. When one seat's action gives a Decision, that seat decides; without one, the room is set to one round.

Seats and rules

Seats

SEATS, IN TURN ORDER lists each seat with its number, its agent and the setup it uses. On each seat:

  • Open setup opens that setup's agent page.
  • The up and down arrows move the seat earlier or later in the turn order. The cross removes it.
  • Action it runs picks which of the agent's actions the seat runs, and shows what that action gives.

To add a seat, pick a setup in + Add a seat… and click Add. The list has every setup of every agent you have, plus + New setup of each agent. A setup can take only one seat; for two seats of the same agent, use two setups of it. Two seats of one agent are named by agent and setup.

What each seat gets

What it gets lists the seat's inputs. Only inputs its setup asks for on each run can be linked; the rest keep the setup's value, or show Set by the Builder when its Builder locked them.

A text input can get:

  • Nothing
  • Your latest message: the last thing you typed in the room.
  • Everything you've said: all your messages in this session.
  • This round so far: every turn in the current round before this one.
  • Everything so far: every turn in this session.
  • Last turn: plus a seat's name: that seat's most recent turn.

A PDF, image, audio or table input can get Room files or Nothing. Other inputs, such as a doc, slides or dashboard input, can't be given anything by a room. If one of those is required, the seat's turns fail unless its Builder set a default.

Rules

  • Who decides: pick a seat whose action gives a Decision, or Nobody, just run the rounds. Only seats whose action gives a Decision can decide. For each choice the decider can give (When it says …), pick Start another round or End the room. By default the last choice ends the room and the others start another round.
  • Most rounds: the room always ends here, even if nobody decides. The field shows the highest number allowed.
  • How it starts: With a message from you (you type what the room should work on before round 1; seats linked to your messages read it) or On its own (round 1 starts straight away; seats linked to your messages get nothing until you speak between rounds).
  • Between rounds: Watch only, or Speak between rounds to add to the record before the next round. You can only type before round 1 and between rounds, never mid-round. The line below lists the seats that read your messages.
  • If a seat's turn fails: Pause the room, Skip that seat this round or End the room.

Room files

Under Room files, click Upload to add files to the room: PDFs, images, audio, and spreadsheets (CSV or Excel). Each file can be up to 32 MB. A file of another kind says "no seat can take this kind of file". Seats with a file input set to Room files get them. A line says which seats read the files, and warns when a seat has no file input and so doesn't see them.

Run a room

Open the Run tab. Its head shows the room's state: Ready with the number of seats and, after a run, about how many credits a round costs; Round … of up to … with whose turn it is; Waiting for you; Paused; or Finished with how many rounds ran.

  1. If something stops the room from starting, Before you start lists it, for example a missing second seat, a seat whose setup was deleted or whose action its Builder removed, or a required input that isn't linked to anything. Fix these in Seats and rules.
  2. Each round shows the seats in order and what each one does. A line below says when the room ends.
  3. When the room starts with a message from you, type it in Your message to start.
  4. Click Start. After a session ends, the button reads Start again.

While the room runs, the transcript shows each round (ROUND 1, ROUND 2, …), each seat's turn, your messages and notes on what happened. The seat that is working shows "working". A decider's choice shows as a chip: green when it ends the room, amber when it starts another round.

  • Stop ends the session at any time.
  • With Speak between rounds, the room waits after each round (Your turn, between rounds). Type something to add to the record, or leave the box empty, then click Start round with the next round's number (Add and start round when you typed something).
  • When a turn fails and the room is set to pause, a card says the seat's turn failed and why. Click Try the turn again, Skip it this round or End the room.

If a seat's setup can't run right now, the Run tab says so with the reason. Swap the seat for another setup in Seats and rules, or wait.

Cost

The Cost panel on the Run tab shows:

  • Each round: about what a round costs, from this room's earlier turns.
  • This session: what the current or last session cost.
  • BY SEAT · ALL TIME IN THIS ROOM: each seat's turns and credits in this room. Click a seat to open its setup.

Each turn is a run of that seat's setup. It's billed there and shows in the setup's History, tagged with the room's name and round. The room keeps only the transcript. On the agent page, a setup that has a seat in a room links to that room ("This setup is … in …").

History

The History tab lists the room's sessions, newest first, with how each ended, its rounds, when it started and what it cost. Click a session to read its transcript. Before the first run it says "This room hasn't run yet."

Limits

  • Rounds: each room has a highest number of rounds; Most rounds can't go above it.
  • Seats and files: a room holds a set number of each. When it's full, + Add a seat… or Upload is off and the page says so.
  • Name and description: the boxes stop at the longest name and line a room keeps.
  • Room files: up to 32 MB per file.
  • Rooms a Builder suggests on a listing: up to 3 rooms, each with up to 6 agents.

Common problems

Start is missing

The room can't start yet. Read Before you start on the Run tab, then fix each line in Seats and rules. A room needs at least two seats, and when it starts with a message from you, the message box can't be empty.

A seat's file input gets nothing

Set the input to Room files under What it gets, and upload files under Room files. A doc, slides or dashboard input can't take room files.

A setup says "already in a seat"

A setup can take one seat in a room. Pick another setup of the agent, or + New setup of it.
